Pimpri-Chinchwad: Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) MP Supriya Sule has issued a stern warning to the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) over the civic and infrastructure issues plaguing Hinjawadi. She has given the authorities a deadline of July 25 to resolve the situation, failing which she has threatened to launch an agitation on July 26.

During her visit to Hinjawadi on Friday, Sule inspected various trouble spots from 8:30 AM, including Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3, Man, Marunji Road, Metro Car Shed Road, and Bhoirwadi. She interacted with engineers and local residents to understand the problems firsthand. Addressing the media later at the Hinjawadi Gram Panchayat office, she expressed strong discontent over the lack of progress in addressing civic concerns.

“Hinjawadi generates the highest revenue and hosts global transactions worth crores, yet it continues to suffer from mounting civic issues. This is not a political issue but an administrative failure,” Sule said. She pointed out that rampant construction in the past five years, including projects on natural drains, has disrupted the area’s ecological balance, leading to waterlogging and other problems.

Sule demanded immediate nullah cleaning, removal of debris from Metro construction sites, and traffic management interventions such as modifying school timings to ease congestion. She urged Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to convene a joint meeting with all key administrative agencies — including the district collector, PMRDA, MIDC, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) — along with local representatives to find a solution.

She also alleged that despite submitting a request and letter seeking time to discuss Hinjawadi’s issues, CM Fadnavis, who frequently visits Pune, has not responded so far.

Key updates from officials:

  • 80% of land acquisition for road development is complete, and work on the remaining 20% will begin after the monsoon.
  • All roads are expected to be completed within a year.
  • A meeting with the industries minister is scheduled for July 8 to discuss the concerns further.

“Earlier, I visited Hinjawadi once a month. Now, I will visit twice a month until these civic issues and traffic snarls are resolved,” Sule asserted.

On Hinjawadi’s administrative status:
Sule highlighted differing opinions on whether Hinjawadi should be merged with PCMC or governed by a separate administrative mechanism for Hinjawadi-Man area. “The government must take a well-considered decision after consulting citizens. A dedicated governance structure is needed to address the issues of Hinjawadi and Maan,” she said.
