Pune, July 5, 2025: The Pune City Police on Saturday shared a detailed report on the alleged rape case in Kondhwa, revealing major discrepancies in the complainant’s account and clarifying facts established during the investigation.

According to the police, an extensive probe was conducted by a team of nearly 500 officers and personnel, who scrutinized over 1,000 hours of CCTV footage across 250 locations. Within 36 hours, the unidentified accused was traced and key details came to light.

  1. The accused is not a courier boy as initially alleged but is, in fact, a close acquaintance of the complainant and has known her for a long time. He also works in the private sector.
  2. The selfies that surfaced were clicked with the complainant’s consent, and she reportedly added text and edited the photos herself.
  3. The accused entered the complainant’s flat with her permission, and contrary to earlier claims, no chloroform or any such substance was used.
  4. Investigators noted that the complainant had concocted certain aspects of her story and even refused to identify CCTV images of the alleged accused shown to her by the team.

“Further facts are still under investigation,” the police statement added.

Reassuring citizens, the Pune City Police said, “We remain committed to the safety and security of Punekars, especially women. We urge the public to refrain from doubting Pune’s safety quotient and seek your cooperation in helping us serve you better.”
