As Sheeran and Arijit’s cross-cultural single takes off, fans add their own spin, with one parody leading the laughs

The global buzz around Sapphire, the newly released collaboration between British pop icon Ed Sheeran and Indian playback legend Arijit Singh, continues to grow. While the song’s Punjabi-flavoured pop and heartfelt visuals have captivated fans across borders, one parody video has now taken the internet by storm for its comic brilliance.

A reel shared by Instagram user @commentrrr, who bears a striking resemblance to Arijit Singh, has gone viral for spoofing the Sapphire music video. In the parody, the creator lip-syncs Singh’s Punjabi verse while riding a bike solo. The punchline lands when on-screen text reads: “Ed Sheeran peeche gir gaya” (Ed Sheeran fell off the bike), a humorous explanation for Sheeran’s absence in the spoof.

Captioned “Urgent Singh”, the video has crossed over 208K views and 12.8K likes, quickly becoming a fan favourite. The comments section is full of wit and wordplay, with one user calling him “Arijit Sethupathi,” while another joked, “He said say-phayer instead of sapphire.” Others chimed in with comparisons like “Vijay Sethupathi first copy” and “Same same but different.”

Originally released on June 5, 2025Sapphire is the third single from Ed Sheeran’s upcoming album Play, under Gingerbread Man Records and Atlantic Records UK. It debuted at number nine on the UK Singles Chart, making it Sheeran’s 43rd top-10 hit. While Singh remains uncredited officially, his distinctive vocals and cultural imprint are central to the track’s Indian appeal.

Directed by Liam Pethick, the official music video is a vibrant montage of Sheeran’s journey through India, featuring street markets, auto-rickshaws, football games with children, and iconic locations like Hyderabad’s Falaknuma Palace and Shillong’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Arijit joins him throughout, including a memorable scooter ride. The video even features a surprise cameo from Shah Rukh Khan, who lip-syncs part of the chorus, much to fans’ delight.

While Sapphire showcases the harmony of musical worlds, it’s the playful energy of the fans, like @commentrrr, that’s adding another layer of celebration to this Indo-British collaboration.
