Good news for Pune residents: there is sufficient water stock in the region’s dams to last for the entire year, according to the latest data released by the irrigation department. The major dams that supply water to Pune and surrounding areas are showing healthy levels of water storage, thanks to recent rainfall and timely management.

As of now, the Khadakwasla dam, which plays a central role in the city’s water supply, holds 57.70% of its capacity. Panshet is at 57.43%Varasgaon at 63.42%, and Temghar — often the slowest to fill — has reached 47.36%.

Authorities are confident that this combined storage is enough to meet Pune’s domestic water needs through the year, even with a slightly delayed monsoon.

However, rural areas are facing more stress. Across the Pune division, 93 tankers are currently supplying water to 81 villages, with Satara district being the most affected (45 villages), followed by Pune district (30 villages). An estimated 1.39 lakh residents are dependent on tanker water.

While the overall urban water outlook is positive, officials continue to monitor usage and weather conditions closely to ensure uninterrupted supply across the region.
