PUNE: Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil announced on Sunday that 1,000 newly trained personnel from the ongoing state police recruitment drive will soon join the Pune Police force. The move is part of efforts to strengthen law enforcement and address the city’s growing population and traffic challenges.

Patil made the announcement while inaugurating the new Anandnagar Police Chowky at Vitthalwadi on Sinhagad Road. The facility was constructed using MLA funds allocated by Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal.

Speaking at the event, Patil stressed the importance of collaboration between citizens, elected representatives, and the police to maintain law and order and manage traffic congestion effectively.

Police commissioner Amitesh Kumar revealed that the home department has approved seven new police stations for Pune and sanctioned funds for CCTV surveillance systems. “The augmentation of manpower will help the Pune police meet the rising expectations of citizens and maintain public safety,” Kumar said.

Misal highlighted the extension of Pune city police limits to include areas previously under rural jurisdiction. She noted that a new police station near Rajaram Bridge will be completed in the next two months to further improve policing in the region.

The newly inaugurated Anandnagar chowky is equipped with modern facilities, including separate rest areas for male and female staff and a dedicated cyber unit for handling cybercrime complaints. Misal added that a proposal will be sent to upgrade the cyber unit into an independent cyber police station.
