Victims allege dating app trap; demand police inquiry and club accountability

A shocking nightlife scam has come to light in Pune, where women are allegedly using dating apps to lure men to high-end clubs, order expensive food and drinks, and then vanish—leaving the men with massive bills and threats from club staff.

According to complaints filed with Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, the elaborate trap unfolds like this: a woman connects with a man through a dating app and invites him to a specific restaurant or club. Once seated, she places orders for costly items—often liquor—and then disappears, typically under the pretext of going to the washroom. When the bill arrives, the unsuspecting man is left alone and pressured by the establishment’s staff to settle the inflated charges.

One such victim, Siddharth, recounted how he was called to Life of Dorrance, a club in Wagholi, by a woman he had matched with online. She ordered liquor worth ₹19,597 and vanished mid-meal. When Siddharth tried contacting her, her phone was switched off. He was then allegedly threatened by the hotel manager to pay the entire bill.

In a twist, Siddharth’s friend Jagjit also received a similar invitation from the same woman. But this time, aware of the con, he inspected her order and discovered that the supposed “liquor” was actually soft drinks. When confronted, the woman panicked and fled the club. Jagjit immediately called the police, and several other women at nearby tables reportedly fled the scene too, fearing exposure.

Despite the mounting allegations, the club’s owner, Ankush Dahake, has denied any wrongdoing. However, victims are demanding a thorough probe into the club’s involvement and the possible collusion of staff in the scam.

The police are now under pressure to investigate the matter swiftly as more such incidents may be part of a larger pattern involving multiple venues and individuals operating under a common strategy.
