Srinagar | July 28, 2025 – Security forces have launched a high-intensity counterterrorism operation titled Operation Mahadev” in the Harwan area near Dachigam National Park, Srinagar, resulting in the killing of three terrorists. The operation, led by the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps and supported by Jammu and Kashmir Police, remains ongoing as officials work to confirm the identities of the deceased militants.

Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Zone), Vidhi Kumar Birdi, briefed the media stating, “The operation is still continuing. As per internal reports, three bodies have been observed and appear neutralised. Identification will take some time, and search teams are still on the ground.”

Initial inputs suggest that the neutralised terrorists may have been linked to the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which left 25 tourists and one local dead. However, official confirmation on their involvement is pending until the identification process concludes.

The encounter unfolded on the same day the Lok Sabha debated Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to terror activities across the border in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, adding strategic significance to the timing of the counterstrike.

Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, Northern Command chief, congratulated the forces for their success and reaffirmed the Army’s dedication to eradicating terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir.

“Neutralising three terrorists in such a swift operation reflects our unwavering commitment to a terror-free region,” he said.

Operation Mahadev underscores the ongoing efforts by Indian security forces to eliminate terrorist threats and maintain peace in the Union territory.
