Heavy Rain Disrupts Pune: Forum For IT Employees Urges Companies To Allow Work From Home
Pune, August 19, 2025: Continuous heavy rainfall since Tuesday morning has thrown normal life out of gear in Pune, causing severe inconvenience to office-goers and residents. Traffic congestion was reported across several parts of the city, while waterlogging in low-lying areas left commuters stranded for hours. Potholes on key arterial roads further slowed down traffic movement, adding to the chaos.
Amid this situation, the Forum For IT Employees has appealed to information technology companies to allow employees to work from home until the weather stabilizes. The union highlighted that despite the forecast of more heavy rain in the coming days, most IT firms have not officially announced a work-from-home option, even though many already follow a hybrid work model.
In a social media post, the union stated that offering work-from-home would not affect productivity but would provide significant relief to employees struggling with daily commutes under unsafe conditions. The organization also emphasized that such a move would help reduce the burden on the city’s traffic systems and civic authorities, who are already under pressure due to waterlogging and infrastructure challenges.
The appeal also drew attention to Pune’s fragile infrastructure, where inadequate drainage and poorly maintained roads often worsen during monsoon. “Work from home is not just an employee convenience but a necessity in view of current conditions,” the union asserted.
The union has urged both the state government and IT firms to act swiftly in the interest of employee safety, smoother traffic management, and reduced civic stress during the ongoing spell of heavy rains.
