Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar on Tuesday urged residents to remain indoors as heavy rains continue to batter the city, causing waterlogging in multiple areas. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he said, “Dear Punekars, your safety remains our utmost priority as the city continues to witness heavy rainfall, resulting in waterlogging across several locations. We urge you to refrain from venturing outdoors unless absolutely unavoidable.”

In case of emergencies, citizens have been advised to dial 112. “Our officials and staff are ready to assist. In the event of any emergency, please reach out immediately to the helpline number 112,” Kumar added.

The downpour has led to severe waterlogging and traffic congestion across Pune, affecting areas such as Hinjawadi, Sinhagad Road, Dhayari, Kharadi, and Mundhwa, causing major inconvenience for officegoers.

IT Forum Urges Companies to Allow Work From Home

Amid the worsening infrastructure and heavy rains, the Forum for IT Employees (FITE) has called on IT companies to allow employees to work from home. With most IT offices located in Hinjawadi, Baner, Kharadi, Hadapsar, and Viman Nagar, FITE emphasized that remote work would not affect delivery but would significantly ease travel difficulties.

Posting on X, FITE stated, “Heavy rains are predicted in Pune for the coming days, yet no steps have been taken to make #WorkFromHome mandatory. Most IT companies are already hybrid – giving WFH will help employees stuck in traffic jams, waterlogging, and pothole-filled roads.”

FITE further urged the Maharashtra government and IT firms to declare work from home as a precautionary measure, noting that it would reduce traffic pressure, ease stress on civic authorities, and provide much-needed relief to employees.
