Maharashtra Weather Alert: Heavy Rainfall Likely in Multiple Districts, IMD Issues Red, Orange, and Yellow Alerts for August 20
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Maharashtra, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts in the next 24 hours. Red, orange, and yellow alerts have been declared for different regions, with Konkan, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha expected to witness intense rainfall on August 20.
According to the IMD, Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Ratnagiri districts may experience heavy to very heavy showers, for which an orange alert has been issued. Sindhudurg is under a yellow alert, while Raigad district faces a red alert with the possibility of extremely heavy downpours.
In western Maharashtra, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, and Solapur are likely to receive moderate rainfall. However, the Pune ghat areas are under a red alert for extremely heavy rain, while the ghat regions of Kolhapur and Satara are under an orange alert.
Marathwada districts including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, and Beed are expected to receive light to moderate showers. Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, and Dharashiv may see light rainfall.
In North Maharashtra, Nashik and Dhule are under a yellow alert due to heavy rain forecasts. Nandurbar and the Nashik ghat region face an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain, while Jalgaon and Ahilyanagar are expected to witness moderate rainfall.
The Vidarbha region, covering Nagpur, Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal, has been placed under a yellow alert. These areas may witness thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds along with rainfall.
Over the past week, heavy rains have already caused extensive crop damage and even led to loss of lives in parts of Maharashtra. Farmers, who have been severely impacted, remain concerned as unpredictable rainfall continues.
The IMD has urged citizens, especially farmers in vulnerable districts, to remain cautious and take necessary safety measures.
