Pune Airport Set for Major Expansion as IAF Clears 13 Acres of Land
Exciting developments are underway at Pune Airport, as the Indian Air Force (IAF) has agreed to transfer 13 acres of land to the Airports Authority of India (AAI). This much-needed move is expected to significantly boost the airport’s capacity and efficiency, with the official handover set to take place by October this year.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, confirmed that the land transfer process is in its final stages and that groundwork for infrastructure development will begin as soon as the land is officially handed over.
To facilitate this exchange, the AAI has constructed new office spaces and other facilities for the IAF on a different plot of land, which are now ready for use.

The additional land will be used to construct five new aircraft parking bays along with three remote bays. This expansion is a crucial step forward in easing air traffic at the busy airport.
With more parking space available, flights will be able to operate more smoothly, reducing delays caused by aircraft having to wait for an open bay.
Beyond just airside improvements, there’s also a focus on enhancing the approach and surroundings of the airport. On Friday, Minister Mohol chaired a joint meeting with officials from AAI, IAF, and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to discuss the broader vision for the area.
Key topics included widening of access roads, improved pedestrian infrastructure, preservation of nearby heritage sites, and an overall beautification plan for the airport zone.
Sharing updates from the meeting on social media, Mohol highlighted that the Ministry of Defence has granted permission for PMC to begin work on these civic upgrades.
The planned developments are expected to make the journey to the airport more convenient for travelers while also giving the area a fresh and attractive look.
