The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a high alert for heavy rainfall across several parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Konkan, Marathwada, Vidarbha, and North Maharashtra, during the first week of September 2025. The weather bureau has warned of intense monsoon activity due to a low-pressure system developing over the Bay of Bengal and cyclonic circulation over central Rajasthan.

Rainfall Forecast for Maharashtra

According to IMD, the next seven days will witness widespread and heavy showers in Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and border regions of Gujarat and Karnataka.

  • September 2: Orange alert for Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur ghats; Yellow alert for Pune, Raigad, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Marathwada districts (Latur, Nanded, Parbhani, Hingoli, Jalna, Aurangabad) and North Maharashtra (Nashik, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon).
  • September 3: Orange alert for Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Pune, Satara, Kolhapur; Yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Nashik, Beed, Aurangabad, Vidarbha, and parts of Marathwada.
  • September 4: Heavy to very heavy rain predicted in Ratnagiri, Raigad, Palghar, Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur ghats (Orange alert). Yellow alerts for Mumbai, Thane, Nashik, Aurangabad, Jalna, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, and Vidarbha districts.

August Monsoon Recap

August rainfall turned out to be a bonus for Marathwada and Vidarbha, with districts like Latur, Nanded, Dharashiv, Beed, Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, and Nandurbar recording above-average rainfall. Mumbai and central Maharashtra also witnessed heavy spells throughout the month.

IMD Outlook

The IMD has projected that September 2025 will bring above-normal rainfall across India, further intensifying the monsoon. With a fresh low-pressure belt expected over the Bay of Bengal from September 2, several states including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Goa are likely to witness widespread heavy rain showers.

Advisory: Citizens are advised to remain cautious of waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and possible flood-like situations, especially in coastal and ghat regions. Farmers have been urged to take preventive steps to safeguard crops in Marathwada and Vidarbha.
