PAN-PAN Alert Mid-Air: Air India Express Flight With 161 Passengers Lands Safely After Engine Fault
Indore: An Air India Express flight from Delhi to Indore carrying 161 passengers made a precautionary emergency call on Friday after a technical issue was detected in one of its engines.
The pilot issued a ‘PAN-PAN’ signal, which indicates an urgent but non-life-threatening situation, before safely landing the aircraft at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport at 9:55 am—20 minutes later than scheduled.
“After receiving information about the engine fault, all safety measures were put in place. The aircraft landed safely and all passengers and crew are completely safe,” Airport Director Vipinkant Seth said.
Air India Express confirmed that the alert was raised due to a suspected oil filter problem during descent. “Following standard operating procedures, the crew landed the aircraft safely. Our pilots are trained to handle such situations with full precaution,” the airline said in a statement.
Emergency fire and medical services were kept on standby at the airport as a precaution, but no injuries were reported.
The ‘PAN-PAN’ signal is internationally recognized in aviation and maritime operations. It signifies that assistance is required urgently, though the situation does not pose an immediate danger to life.
