Pune: Parent Alleges Religious Conversion Attempt On Class X Student At Vibgyor School Sick Bay
Pune, June 20, 2026: A parent has raised serious concerns regarding the conduct of a staff member at VIBGYOR Rise CBSE School in Phursungi, alleging that her Class X daughter was exposed to religious discussions and faith-based messaging while visiting the school’s sick bay for medical assistance.
The matter came to light after the parent shared her concerns on a parents’ WhatsApp group, triggering discussions among several families associated with the school and prompting calls for clarification from the management.
According to the parent, the student had gone to the school’s sick bay after feeling unwell. During her visit, a staff member, believed to be part of the medical team, allegedly engaged her in an extended conversation about Christianity, personal faith, and religious conversion rather than limiting the interaction to healthcare-related matters.
The parent claimed that the staff member spoke about her own spiritual journey and suggested that faith and prayer had helped overcome challenges in life. The parent further alleged that the student was advised not to discuss the conversation with her mother, a claim that has caused particular concern among parents.
It was also alleged that the student was encouraged to watch content created by a social media personality known for promoting Christian teachings. According to the parent, the name of the online channel was reportedly written down and shared with the student.
The parent has indicated that she plans to formally take up the matter with the school administration and seek an explanation regarding the incident.
Akshay Jain, General Secretary of Maharashtra Pradesh Youth Congress told Pune Pulse, “The allegations concerning a student at VIBGYOR Rise CBSE School, Phursungi, being exposed to religious discussions while seeking medical assistance in the school’s sick bay are serious and warrant a thorough examination. Educational institutions are entrusted with providing a safe, neutral, and inclusive environment where students can learn and grow without any form of undue influence.”
Jain further said, “Parents place immense trust in schools, expecting that interactions between staff and students will remain professional and appropriate to the circumstances. If conversations unrelated to medical care were held with a minor and involved matters of personal faith or religious beliefs, the issue deserves careful scrutiny and clarification. We urge the school management to conduct a transparent, impartial, and time-bound inquiry into the complaint and place the facts before parents and stakeholders. Any findings of misconduct should be addressed in accordance with established policies and regulations. Maharashtra has long upheld the principles of diversity, mutual respect, and constitutional values. It is important that schools continue to reflect these principles while ensuring that the welfare, safety, and emotional well-being of students remain paramount. Restoring confidence through transparency and accountability is essential in matters of this nature.”
The matter is currently under review by the school authorities.
