Pune: 672 Homeowners Of Ganga Village Society On Handewadi Road Become Legal Owners Of 11.5-Acre Land After 18-Year Wait
Pune, June 20, 2026: Residents of Ganga Village Cooperative Housing Society on Handewadi Road are celebrating a major milestone after the society officially secured ownership rights over its 11.5-acre land parcel. The society has now been registered as the legal owner of the property, with the land records (7/12 extract) recently transferred to the society’s name.
The development comes following a state government policy aimed at resolving long-pending land ownership issues faced by cooperative housing societies. Ganga Village has become the first housing society in the Hadapsar region to benefit from the initiative.
The society, spread across 11.5 acres, comprises 672 apartment owners. According to society representatives, a conveyance deed had been registered with the developer nearly 18 years ago. However, a pending government tax liability of approximately ₹12 lakh had prevented the transfer of the land records into the society’s name.
The issue was resolved after Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule directed concerned departments to waive the land tax applicable to cooperative housing societies and expedite the transfer process.
The matter had also been highlighted during the Government at Your Doorstep (Shasan Aplya Dari) initiative held at Sasane Lawns in March where former corporator Vijaya Wadkar raised the issue before authorities.
Following the intervention, Tehsildar Dr. Archana Nikam instructed revenue officials to complete the necessary formalities. Mandal Officer Shekhar Shinde and Village Revenue Officer Swarup Kumar Pawar subsequently processed the records, resulting in the 7/12 extract being transferred to the society’s name.
Residents celebrated the achievement by distributing sweets and expressing happiness over finally becoming legal owners of the land after years of uncertainty. Society office-bearers and members termed the development a significant victory for all 672 homeowners and a model for other housing societies facing similar issues.
Speaking to Pune Pulse, Popat Wadkar said, “It is a great achievement in the history of Cooperative Housing Societies. There are 772 units including 1,2,3 BHK, penthouses and commercial complexes. The decision came after many years of consistent efforts. The residents will be benefitted when the society goes for redevelopment.”
