Mumbai / Pune: Maharashtra is set to experience widespread rainfall as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh weather alerts for 33 districts on Tuesday, September 16.Â
The retreating monsoon has triggered heavy showers across several parts of the state, with Mumbai, Konkan, Marathwada, Vidarbha, and central Maharashtra likely to witness intense downpours.
According to the IMD forecast, Raigad, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Pune ghat regions have been placed under an orange alert, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Mumbai city and suburbs are also expected to receive moderate to heavy showers accompanied by lightning. Raigad, Ratnagiri, Thane, and Palghar districts in Konkan may witness similar weather conditions. While five districts in Konkan are under a yellow alert, one district remains under orange alert.
In western Maharashtra, Pune, Sangli, and Solapur are under a yellow alert, while Kolhapur and Satara may receive moderate rainfall. Northern Maharashtra, including Nashik and surrounding districts, is also under a yellow alert, with the possibility of heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
Marathwada is likely to see widespread rains with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar under orange alert, while Jalna, Beed, Dharashiv, Latur, Nanded, Parbhani, and Hingoli are under yellow alert. Several parts of Vidarbha, barring Chandrapur and Gadchiroli, are forecast to receive heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, the monsoon withdrawal has begun from Rajasthan and is expected to retreat from Maharashtra in October. In the past 24 hours, heavy rainfall was recorded in Marathwada, Mumbai, and parts of Ahmednagar, raising water levels and causing concerns for citizens.
Authorities have urged residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
