Pune police register assault case that could jeopardize aspirants’ dreams of becoming government officers

A shocking incident has come to light in Pune, where five women preparing for the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) exams have been booked for assaulting their roommate over a trivial dispute.

All six women, who hail from different villages and share a one-room kitchen in Sadashiv Peth while pursuing their studies, had come to the city with dreams of becoming government officers. However, one of the basic eligibility rules for MPSC is that candidates must not have any criminal record. With an FIR now registered, these five aspirants may face serious obstacles in their career path.

According to Khadak police, the complainant, a 23-year-old, alleged that her five roommates had been arguing with her repeatedly for the past few days. Matters escalated on the night of September 14 around 10 pm, when a quarrel broke out over a seemingly minor issue—cleaning the sink after cooking chicken earlier that afternoon.

Snehal, one of the accused, allegedly began shouting at the complainant for not cleaning the basin properly. When the complainant replied that she had already cleaned it and asked her not to raise her voice, the argument intensified.

The complaint states that Snehal pushed her against the wall and pinned her down, while the other four slapped her on the face. They then allegedly threw her to the ground and beat her with kicks and punches. The complainant managed to escape and, in a desperate attempt to save herself, ran outside to call the police helpline number 112.

Following her report, Khadak police registered a case against all five women involved. Police is currently investigating the matter.
