PM Modi to Address Nation at 5 PM Today: Key Announcement Expected
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the nation at 5 pm on Sunday, officials confirmed. The topic of his address has not been disclosed yet.
The timing of the speech is significant, as it comes on the eve of Navratri, when a major GST overhaul will take effect. From September 22, the existing four GST slabs will be reduced to two, leading to price cuts on several products.
The address also comes against the backdrop of strained India–US relations. Washington recently imposed steep tariffs on India over its purchase of Russian oil, adding to tensions. Meanwhile, the Trump administration’s move to hike the H-1B visa application fee to USD 100,000 (over ₹88 lakh) has caused widespread concern among Indian professionals.
Although the US clarified that the fee applies only to new applications and not to existing visa holders or re-entry cases, the announcement triggered panic. Responding indirectly, PM Modi on Saturday stressed that India’s greatest challenge lies in its dependence on foreign nations, urging self-reliance in critical sectors such as semiconductors and shipbuilding.
