Ramayana Question Stumps Contestant on KBC 17 — Would You Have Got It Right?
On the October 1 episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 17, a question from the Ramayana brought an unexpected twist for contestant Shraddha, who had been progressing smoothly on the hot seat opposite Amitabh Bachchan. Everything was going her way—until the ₹7.5 lakh question appeared. It was a test not just of knowledge, but of composure under pressure.
The question was:
“According to the Valmiki Ramayana, whom did Lord Rama send to remind Sugriva of the promise he had made?”
The options were:
A) Hanuman B) Lakshmana C) Angad D) Bharat
Though confident up to this point, Shraddha found herself unsure. With the stakes high, she chose to use her Audience Poll lifeline. Even then, she wasn’t completely certain, so she looked to the host, Amitabh Bachchan, for some direction. Big B offered a gentle clue: “Think of the one who spent the exile with Lord Rama.” That hint, along with the audience’s vote, gave her the confidence to lock in Option B: Lakshmana — and it turned out to be the correct answer.
As recounted in the Valmiki Ramayana, after Sugriva was crowned king, he became absorbed in the luxuries of his new life and began to ignore the promise he had made to Lord Rama — to help find Sita. Seeing this, Rama sent his younger brother Lakshmana to Kishkindha to remind Sugriva of his commitment. It was only after Lakshmana’s stern intervention that Sugriva finally fulfilled his word and began the search for Sita.
After nailing that tricky question, Shraddha advanced to the ₹25 lakh question. But instead of risking a wrong answer, she chose to walk away with ₹12.5 lakh — a move that showed smart, strategic thinking under pressure.
While Shraddha’s game was impressive, another contestant made headlines that week. Aditya Kumar, a Deputy Commandant in the CISF currently posted as an ASP in Punjab, became the season’s first crorepati. Despite facing several setbacks in his UPSC journey, Aditya never gave up. His resilience paid off when he answered the ₹1 crore question correctly:
“Which element is named after the scientist who isolated plutonium?”
The right answer was Seaborgium, named after Glenn T. Seaborg.
KBC 17 continues to strike a chord with audiences by blending culture, history, science, and personal grit. Whether it’s a question from ancient epics like the Ramayana or a nod to scientific pioneers, the show challenges contestants on multiple fronts. Shraddha’s poise and Aditya’s determination perfectly capture what Kaun Banega Crorepati is all about — not just knowing the right answers, but also knowing when to trust your gut and when to step away with grace.
