Lizards seek shelter in dark corners, behind furniture, near windows, and in kitchens or bathrooms where moisture is present. They are attracted by food sources such as insects, mosquitoes, flies, and spiders.

1) Naphthalene Ball Spray- A commonly suggested home remedy involves using naphthalene balls.

How to make it:

  • Crush 2–3 naphthalene balls into a fine powder.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of liquid antiseptic solution.
  • Mix with half a cup of water.
  • Pour the mixture into a spray bottle.

Spray the solution in areas where lizards are frequently seen, such as kitchen sinks, bathroom corners, windows, and behind cupboards.

2)  Camphor and Antiseptic Spray- The strong smell of camphor may help repel lizards.

How to make it:

  • Mix water, camphor powder, and a small amount of liquid antiseptic in a spray bottle.
  • Shake well before use.

Spray around door frames, window corners, and other entry points.

3)  Garlic and Onion Solution- Garlic and onion have strong odours that many household pests tend to avoid.

How to make it:

  • Blend the onion and garlic to extract the juice.
  • Mix the juice with water.
  • Fill a spray bottle with the mixture.

Spray along walls, corners, and places where lizards are often spotted.

4) Cold Water Method- If a lizard is already on a wall or surface, spraying cold water may temporarily slow its movement.

Spray cold water directly on the lizard. The sudden temperature change may reduce its grip, making it easier to guide it outside the house.

To keep lizards away from your home, it is important to maintain cleanliness and remove conditions that attract them. Keep kitchen counters clean and free of food scraps, remove standing water from sinks and bathrooms, and seal cracks or gaps around doors and windows to prevent entry. Reducing insects inside the house is also essential, as they are a major food source for lizards.

Regularly cleaning dark corners, storage spaces, and hidden areas can further discourage them from staying indoors. While home remedies such as garlic-onion sprays, camphor mixtures, and naphthalene-based solutions may help reduce their presence, they should be used with caution, especially around children and pets. Proper ventilation should be ensured, and such substances should be kept away from food preparation areas.

Although lizards can be difficult to eliminate, combining these simple remedies with regular home maintenance and pest control measures can help keep them away effectively.
