Pune: LGBTIQ Community To Celebrate "Nirali Diwali" On October 19
This Diwali, members of Pune’s LGBTIQ community and allies will come together for “Nirali Diwali,” a special celebration organized by Yutak LGBTQ Trust. The event, set for October 19 at Shikshak Bhavan in Navi Peth, aims to provide a welcoming and inclusive space for those who may not have the opportunity to celebrate the festival with their families.

For many in the community, Diwali can be a challenging time, especially for those who have faced rejection or distancing from their families due to their gender identity or sexual orientation. “Through Nirali Diwali, we hope to bridge that gap and offer a homely atmosphere where everyone can celebrate with joy and dignity,” said Anil Ukarande, founder of Yutak Trust.
The event will feature traditional Diwali rituals such as lighting diyas, creating rangoli, and sharing festive snacks (faral). Cultural activities like dancing, singing, and storytelling will also be part of the festivities, allowing attendees to connect, share experiences, and build meaningful relationships.

Now in its third year, Nirali Diwali continues to promote inclusiveness and strengthen community bonds. The event is open to all, including allies who wish to show their support. It will be held from 5:30 PM onwards at Shikshak Bhavan, near SM Joshi Auditorium. Interested participants can register in advance or on the spot.
