Pune: Late-Night Restaurant Culture And Civic Negligence Blamed For Fatal Crash In NIBM Annexe
Pune, October 21, 2025: A deadly early-morning crash near Raheja Premiere in NIBM Annexe–Mohammadwadi has once again highlighted how illegal late-night restaurants, civic negligence, and lax policing are endangering lives in one of Pune’s fastest-growing residential zones.
The local residents have been demanding to to complete the pending road and also install speed breakers on the road to control speeding of vehicles.
According to residents, a speeding car carrying local youths lost control around 5:30 am after they had reportedly been at a restaurant near Ganga Kingston — an establishment that allegedly continues to operate beyond permissible hours. Locals say such outlets serve food, alcohol, and even hookah late into the night with complete police protection.
“These places are open till dawn. Loud music, drinking, and rash driving are routine. Everyone knows who protects them,” said a resident of Raheja Premiere, demanding that police take strict action instead of turning a blind eye.
When contacted the Kalepadal Police official, they confirmed that an accident between two wheeler and a four wheeler took place and the biker met with fatal accident. The other formalities are ongoing in the incident.
Citizens say that poor road design, absence of proper speed breakers, and unchecked commercialisation have made the stretch from NIBM to Mohammadwadi a hotspot for accidents. Despite repeated complaints, both the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the local police have failed to enforce rules or act against violators.
“Illegal restaurants and late-night hangouts are operating openly. The police collect protection money, and civic officials look the other way. This system has turned NIBM into a death trap,” said a civic activist who has filed multiple complaints with the PMC.
Residents have called for a joint crackdown by the PMC and city police, closure of all establishments operating beyond legal hours, and urgent improvement of road safety infrastructure.
The crash near Raheja Premiere is not just another accident — it’s a grim reminder that corruption and inaction, not fate, are claiming lives in NIBM Annexe.
