Mumbai Sweats Through Festive Season: No Sign of Winter as Temperatures Stay High

Despite October rolling into its final stretch, Mumbai continues to sizzle under unusually high temperatures. The seasonal transition that usually brings a slight nip in the air has been noticeably delayed this year, leaving the city wrapped in warmth instead of the expected pre-winter coolness.

This week, the weather has been anything but mild. On Monday, Mumbai recorded a sweltering high of 35.9°C and a warm low of 25.1°C — far from the threshold that would bring any real sense of chill. Weather experts explain that for the city to feel truly cold, maximum temperatures should drop below 32°C, and minimums need to fall under 20°C. Neither of those conditions are on the horizon anytime soon.

Since early October, residents have been dealing with an uncomfortable mix of rising heat and fluctuating humidity. This combination has made daily life sticky and sweaty, with little relief even during nighttime hours. Last Friday’s high of 37°C was the season’s hottest day so far, making it clear that Mumbai’s typical winter onset is still out of reach.

Meteorologist Agreya Shetty points out that the pleasant, breezy weather many associate with this time of year won’t arrive until temperatures take a noticeable dip — which, by current forecasts, isn’t expected this month.

While the festive lights and celebrations continue in full swing, the missing cool breeze is hard to ignore. Instead of cozy evenings and light sweaters, Mumbai remains in short sleeves and summer mode, waiting patiently for the first real signs of winter to finally set in.
