Rising fuel costs have pushed up cab fares on the Pune-Mumbai route, increasing travel expenses for daily commuters, corporate employees, students and airport-bound passengers.

Travel between Pune and Mumbai has become more expensive after cab operators revised fares in response to rising fuel prices. The new rates, introduced during the last week of May, have increased the cost of intercity travel by around Rs 300 to Rs 400 per trip.

The fare hike comes amid continued increases in fuel prices across Maharashtra. CNG in Pune is currently priced at around Rs 96.50 per kg, diesel costs approximately Rs 98.68 per litre, and petrol has crossed Rs 112 per litre, reaching Rs 112.04. Operators say the cumulative impact of repeated fuel price increases has made fare revisions unavoidable.

Cab services operating on the busy Pune-Mumbai corridor have reported a significant rise in operating costs over the past few months. As a result, both private and shared cab services have adjusted their pricing to maintain viability.

The increase is being felt most by frequent travellers who regularly commute between Pune and Mumbai for work, education and air travel. Many Pune residents travelling to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport for domestic and international flights are now facing higher transportation costs.

Corporate employees who travel between the two cities for meetings and work assignments, as well as students who rely on shared cab services, have also been affected. Several commuters said the revised fares may appear modest on a single trip but can significantly increase monthly travel expenses for those who travel regularly.

Cab operators said fuel remains one of their largest operating expenses, and maintaining previous fare levels had become increasingly difficult. They added that rising maintenance and operational costs have further added pressure on the sector.

With fuel prices remaining elevated, commuters may continue to face higher travel costs on one of Maharashtra’s busiest intercity routes. Many passengers are now exploring alternative travel options, including buses and trains, to manage rising transportation expenses.

The Pune-Mumbai corridor remains one of the most heavily used travel routes in the state, connecting two major economic hubs and serving thousands of passengers every day.
