Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday suspended two officials from its Transferable Development Rights (TDR) department for failing to act against illegal construction at a building site in Baner.

Junior Engineer Shubhangi Tarukmare and Deputy Engineer Sandeep Misal were suspended under Section 56(2)(F) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act. A departmental inquiry has been initiated against both officials, according to an order issued by Vijaykumar Thorat, Deputy Commissioner (General Administration), PMC.

The action follows reports that two additional floors had been built at the Baner property despite consuming the permissible TDR. The construction of the sixth and seventh floors was proposed using additional TDR beyond the sanctioned plan. However, without official approval, the slab for the sixth floor had already been completed, and work on the seventh was underway. The TDR cell reportedly failed to flag these irregularities when the proposal for extra TDR use was submitted and pending approval.

PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said the civic body will take stricter measures against unauthorized constructions.

“Planned growth of the city cannot happen if illegal constructions are taking place,” he said. “Such activities must be stopped for better infrastructure management. Civic officials must perform their basic duties to control this nuisance or face strict action.”

In a separate development, the commissioner’s office also imposed fines ranging from ₹2,000 to ₹5,000 on several staff members of the Ghole Road ward office under the Solid Waste Management (SWM) department.

The fines were issued after PMC officials found accumulated garbage at Deep Bangla Chowk and nearby areas during the commissioner’s inspection on Sunday. Staff members reportedly failed to provide satisfactory explanations, prompting immediate penalties. Notices for payment of fines have been issued.
