Mumbai: Major Fire Erupts at Jogeshwari High-Rise; 24 Rescued(Video)
Mumbai witnessed a major fire incident on Thursday morning after a Level-III blaze broke out at the 13-storey JNS Business Center in Jogeshwari West. The fire, which engulfed the 9th to 12th floors of the commercial building, prompted an extensive rescue operation by the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB).
According to officials, 24 people trapped inside were safely evacuated through the staircase. No injuries have been reported so far.
The incident was reported to the MFB at 10:51 am, following which a Level-III fire call was made at 10:54 am. “Firemen equipped with breathing apparatus carried out rescue and ventilation operations,” the MFB said in a statement.
The JNS Business Center, located on SV Road near Gandhi School, quickly became engulfed in flames, with fire visible from multiple floors. Nine fire engines, a quick response team, fire tenders, two turntable ladders, an ambulance, and several other disaster management vehicles were rushed to the spot. The Chief Fire Officer, two deputy fire officers, four additional fire officers, two senior officers, and ten station officers were deployed to manage the situation.
This marks the second major high-rise fire in Mumbai in consecutive days. On Wednesday, a fire broke out in a seven-storey residential building in Malad West, injuring a resident and a fire official.
That incident began around 5 am in a closed flat on the sixth floor and spread to four units on the seventh floor. Firefighters, along with the Mumbai Police and local ward staff, brought the blaze under control after two hours.
The injured resident, 24-year-old Shubham Agotaria, sustained a cut on his left hand and was treated at Lifeline Hospital before being discharged. A senior fire officer suffered an internal leg injury and was taken to Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari East. Preliminary reports suggest that an electrical short circuit may have triggered the Malad fire.
