Pune: Sunday Hikers Mark Diwali with Early Morning Deepotsav and Musical Celebration on Vetal Hill
Pune, October 24, 2025: Adding a unique twist to Diwali festivities, the Sunday Hikers group celebrated the festival of lights with an early morning event that combined tradition, music, and community spirit. Known for their adventurous Sunday treks, the group of over 1,200 members chose to mark Diwali in a way that celebrated both nature and togetherness.
The event, titled “Diwali Pahat,” began at 5 a.m. with a grand Deepotsav (lamp lighting ceremony) atop Vetal Hill. In a breathtaking sight, members illuminated the hill with 600 traditional lamps, symbolizing light’s victory over darkness. The serene glow of the lamps created a divine atmosphere, reflecting the essence of Diwali. The team also ensured environmental responsibility by performing a thorough cleanup after the ceremony.
At 6:30 a.m., the celebration transformed into a Musical Morning, where 21 members showcased their artistic talents. From a graceful Ganesh Vandana and soulful classical renditions to Bharatanatyam, flute recitals, film songs, and poetry, the performances brought out the group’s cultural vibrancy and creativity. The event was gracefully anchored, keeping the audience deeply engaged and inspired.
The festivities concluded at 10 a.m. with a joyful breakfast gathering, where members shared homemade sweets and festive treats, spreading warmth and happiness across the Sunday Hikers family. The celebration beautifully blended cultural tradition with camaraderie and environmental mindfulness.
For the Sunday Hikers, this Diwali morning was more than just a celebration — it was a reminder of the joy of community, the beauty of nature, and the spirit of giving that defines the festival of lights.
