Aurangabad Railway Station Renamed as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Railway Station
The Ministry of Railways has officially approved the renaming of Aurangabad Railway Station to “Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar” Railway Station. This significant change aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to reflect regional and historical heritage in city and station names.
According to the South Central Railway, the competent authority has sanctioned the change under the Nanded Division. The station will now carry the new name “Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar” Railway Station, with the updated railway code “CPSN”. The official notification confirming the change was released this week.
As per the circular, the former “Aurangabad” Railway Station shall henceforth be recognized in all railway systems, timetables, and passenger information platforms under the new name and code. The change will also be implemented across reservation systems, signage, and public announcements in a phased manner.
The renaming of the station follows the earlier decision to rename the city of Aurangabad as “Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar”, paying tribute to the Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The move has been welcomed by many citizens and political representatives who view it as a restoration of regional pride.
Officials have urged passengers and the general public to take note of the updated name while booking tickets, checking train schedules, or traveling through the station. The change is now effective, and all future references will reflect the new identity.
Railway authorities have also initiated the process of updating station boards, digital systems, and online booking platforms to ensure a smooth transition for passengers using the newly named “Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar” Railway Station.
