Pune Police Arrest Gajanan Marne Gang Member Rupesh Marne From Mulshi
Pune, October 28, 2025: In a major breakthrough against organised crime, Pune Police have arrested Rupesh Marne, a prominent member of the notorious Gajanan Marne gang, who had been absconding for nine months in connection with the assault on engineer and BJP worker Devendra Jog. The Kothrud Police apprehended him from Andgaon village in Mulshi taluka late on Monday night.
According to officials, the Pune Police have intensified their crackdown on local gangs over the past year, targeting major criminal syndicates including the Andekar and Nilesh Ghaywal gangs. With the arrest of Rupesh Marne — considered the second-in-command after gang leader Gajanan Marne — the police have struck another significant blow against the city’s gang network.
Marne was wanted for his involvement in the February attack on Devendra Jog, which took place during Shiv Jayanti celebrations in the Kothrud area. The incident sparked political attention after Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol condemned the assault and demanded strict action against the perpetrators.
While several accused were earlier taken into custody, Rupesh Marne had managed to evade arrest for months. Acting on a tip-off, a police team traced his movements and laid a trap in Andgaon, leading to his capture.
Investigations have revealed that even while Gajanan Marne remains behind bars, Rupesh Marne was overseeing the gang’s activities externally. He faces multiple serious charges registered at the Kothrud Police Station, and further investigation is currently underway.
