Tension escalated in Pune’s TMV Colony, Gultekdi, on Friday morning after a group of men allegedly brought down the compound wall of an elderly resident’s bungalow, sparking a police case and renewed focus on an ongoing property dispute.

An 80-year-old homeowner lodged a formal complaint at Swargate Police Station after discovering that parts of his bungalow’s boundary wall and gate had been demolished around 11:30 a.m. The FIR names four individuals, including a man claiming ownership of the bungalow, a private contractor, and an excavator operator.

According to police sources, the accused purchaser had earlier bought the bungalow from the complainant, but the latter continued residing there. The disagreement over possession had already reached the court, awaiting a legal resolution.

Police Sub-Inspector Smita Patil, who is investigating the matter, explained, “The accused, who had purchased the property, took action without prior notice while the case was still pending before the court.

At the time of the incident, the complainant, his son, and daughter were at the police station to record their statements related to the same dispute.”

Patil added that during their absence, the accused allegedly attempted to take control of the bungalow by demolishing parts of the compound wall using construction equipment.

Upon receiving details of the incident, Pune City Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar ordered immediate action against the suspects for attempting to seize possession of the disputed property unlawfully. The police subsequently registered an offence against all four accused under Sections 329(4), 324(4), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Although no arrests have been made so far, the police confirmed that an investigation is actively underway. Interestingly, officials said that later the same evening, one of the accused arranged for laborers to rebuild the very wall that had been demolished earlier that day.

Authorities emphasized that the matter remains under close scrutiny. “Given that the ownership dispute is already before the court, any act of forceful possession or damage to property will be treated as a serious offence,” a senior officer said.
