The 89-year-old actor, soon to turn 90 on December 8, was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital for breathlessness; reports confirm he is stable and undergoing routine tests.
Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai after complaining of breathlessness on Friday night, sparking concern among his fans and well-wishers. However, sources close to the actor have confirmed that his condition is stable and there is no cause for alarm.
According to journalist Vickey Lalwani, who first shared the update, Dharmendra was taken to the hospital after he experienced difficulty breathing. “Dharmendra came in complaining of breathlessness. He is in the ICU and sleeping now,” he posted on social media.
While the news initially caused a wave of worry, later reports clarified that the actor is doing well and is under medical observation as a precautionary measure. A source cited by India Today explained, “Someone may have spotted him and created a news piece. He is absolutely fine and there’s nothing to be worried about. He just went for his scheduled tests.” Another report, however, mentioned that Dharmendra has been under medical care for the past five days, suggesting a longer stay for observation and recovery.
Earlier this year, the He-Man of Bollywood underwent an eye graft surgery, after which he reassured fans of his resilience. Speaking to the media then, he said, “I am strong. Abhi bhi Dharmendra mein bahut dum hai. Abhi bhi jaan rakhta hoon. Meri aankh, eye graft ho gayi hai. I am strong. Love you, my audience and my fans.”
As the actor approaches his 90th birthday on December 8, he continues to stay active in the film industry. He will next be seen in “Ikkis,” a biographical war drama directed by Sriram Raghavan and produced by Maddock Films, co-starring Agastya Nanda, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Simar Bhatia. The film, based on the life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, a Param Vir Chakra awardee from the 1971 Indo-Pak war, is slated for release in December.
Dharmendra plays the role of Arun’s grandfathe, a character full of warmth, courage, and wisdom — in what could be one of his most heartfelt portrayals in recent years.
