Pune: PMC Launches Special ‘Pothole-Free Roads’ Drive Across City From November 3
Pune, November 1, 2025: The long-standing dream of Pune residents to have pothole-free roads may soon come true, as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a special month-long campaign starting November 3 to repair damaged roads across the city.
PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said that the initiative will be carried out jointly by the road department and the 15 regional offices of the civic body. A total of 15 dedicated teams will be deployed for this purpose.
Every year, the PMC permits government, semi-government, and private agencies to dig roads between October 1 and April 30 for laying service lines. However, it is mandatory for these agencies to complete road restoration by May 31. Despite this, improper repair work often leads to the formation of potholes during the monsoon, severely affecting traffic flow.
During inspection visits, Commissioner Ram observed several roads damaged due to unscientific repair practices and waterlogging. Taking serious note of this, he directed officials to implement a citywide pothole-free roads campaign beginning November 3.
Under the initiative, each of the 15 teams will be responsible for repairing 10 kilometers of roads. Work will be distributed among seven contractors, who, according to the commissioner, will not earn any profit from this project.
PMC’s road network has suffered extensive damage due to ongoing metro construction, housing projects, and fiber cable installations carried out by multiple departments, combined with heavy monsoon rains. The poor road condition has not only slowed traffic but also posed health and safety risks for commuters.
With the international cycling championship scheduled to be held in Pune this January, the civic administration aims to ensure all major city roads are restored and pothole-free before the event.
