Pune, June 3: The Hinjawadi Police have detained the CEO of ThinkTech India OPC Pvt Ltd in connection with an alleged fraud case involving more than 700 employees, trainees, and interns after the Pune-based IT firm abruptly shut down its operations on April 22 without prior notice.

According to police officials, CEO Harhal Thakre was traced in Nashik and brought to Pune for questioning. A case has been registered against the CEO, the company’s training and development head, and the HR head on charges of cheating, criminal breach of trust, and non-payment of salaries.

Investigators said the company recruited engineering graduates for software development and training roles. Several employees alleged that they were asked to pay ₹15,000 as a laptop security deposit during the hiring process. However, many claim they never received the laptops despite making the payment. Employees also alleged that salaries for the last two months remained unpaid.

Former staff members stated that the company conducted large-scale recruitment drives last year and functioned normally in its initial months. Problems reportedly began in February when salary disbursements were delayed. Employees were allegedly informed that an internal audit had caused the delay and were assured that pending payments would be cleared soon, but the dues were never settled.

Police have so far recorded statements from around 30 complainants, who collectively reported losses of approximately ₹11.25 lakh. Preliminary investigations revealed that the company was operating from a rented office premises. Authorities said the landlord allegedly locked the office after rent payments were not made, resulting in the sudden suspension of operations.

The abrupt shutdown has left hundreds of employees struggling financially, particularly those who relocated to Pune for employment. Many are also concerned that their tenure with the company may not be recognized as valid work experience, potentially affecting future job opportunities.

Police are currently examining the firm’s financial records, recruitment practices, and salary transactions. Officials expect more victims to come forward as the investigation progresses.
