Pune, November 14, 2025: A leopard was sighted in broad daylight near the Bhavara settlement in Shevalewadi, creating panic among local residents. Following urgent requests for safety measures, forest officials, led by Forest Guard Priya Anken, inspected the area and assured that appropriate actions will be taken soon.

Residents had been discussing leopard sightings in the Fursungi area over the past three days. On Thursday afternoon around 1:30 pm, the leopard was seen crossing the road near Bhavara settlement. 

A local driver captured a photo of the animal on his mobile phone, which quickly went viral in the neighborhood.

After being informed, BJP Pune District Vice President Rahul Shewale alerted the forest department and the police. Subsequently, Police Sub-Inspector Mahesh Kavale, along with Vijaykumar Dhakne and Forest Guard Priya Anken, visited Bhavara settlement to assess the situation. The team noted a heightened sense of fear in the community.

As a precaution, Shewale requested forest officials to install cameras immediately and to set up a cage if necessary. Residents have now informed the authorities that the leopard has moved toward the vicinity of the Grape Research Center.

The forest department has assured residents that preventive measures will be implemented promptly to ensure public safety.
