Baner: The Amol Balwadkar Social Foundation launched the ‘Mission Nirmal’ cleanliness campaign across Ward 9, covering Baner, Balewadi, Sus, Mahalunge and Someshwarwadi. The initiative has now completed 50 days, during which nearly 50 kilometres of roads and surrounding areas were cleaned.

According to the Foundation, cleanliness is not just a responsibility but a habit that needs to be built over time. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for cleanliness, Mission Nirmal was inaugurated at Baner’s Pan Card Club Road by Cabinet Minister Chandrakant Patil.

Former corporator Amol Balwadkar took the lead in promoting the campaign, and many local residents also joined in. The first phase focused on cleaning Baner, Balewadi, Mahalunge, Someshwarwadi and the Pashan Link Road. The second phase will now move towards Pashan, Sutarwadi and Sus Road.

Large amounts of waste were cleared during the drive, and shopkeepers were encouraged to keep the areas outside their shops clean. Volunteers worked to make them understand the importance of maintaining cleanliness in public spaces.

With Mission Nirmal running consistently for 50 straight days, the effort has grown into a community movement. Balwadkar appealed to residents, housing societies and local businesses to continue supporting the initiative and take active part in maintaining hygiene in their localities.

Balwadkar added that the campaign was started in response to the Prime Minister’s call, under the guidance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol and Cabinet Minister Chandrakant Patil. So far, hundreds of tonnes of waste have been removed, and 50 kilometres of roads and neighbourhoods have been cleaned. The goal is to create a habit of cleanliness among citizens through self-discipline, with the campaign being carried out in every part of the ward in phases.
