Pune, June 25, 2026: The investigation into the murder of Pune businessman Ketan Agarwal has taken a new turn, with police claiming that his fiancée, Siya Goyal, was allegedly not ready for marriage and was under pressure from her family to go ahead with the wedding.

According to investigators, Siya was allegedly in a relationship with Chetan Chaudhary, and police believe Ketan had become an obstacle in their relationship. Officials claim the two conspired to kill him and stage his death as a trekking accident.

Ketan died on June 18 after falling into a gorge at Lohagad Fort near Pune. The incident was initially treated as an accidental death after Siya told police that he had slipped while taking photographs near the edge of the fort. However, investigators later found inconsistencies in her statement, prompting a murder investigation.

Police said they examined financial records, personal relationships, digital evidence and other material during the investigation. Officials allege the inquiry revealed that Siya and Chetan became close after meeting at a Diwali party last year and remained in regular contact. Investigators claim the two discussed eliminating Ketan from their lives.

According to police, Siya had expressed a desire to postpone the marriage but was allegedly facing pressure from her family to proceed with the wedding. Investigators believe this may have been one of the factors behind the alleged conspiracy.

Police are also investigating whether there was an earlier attempt to kill Ketan on June 14. Ketan’s father, Vishal Agarwal, alleged that during a visit to Lohagad Fort that day, his son was pushed towards the edge of a cliff but managed to save himself by grabbing nearby bushes. He claimed Siya later said she had pushed him only to protect him after warning him about a snake.

Investigators are also examining another visit to Lohagad Fort on May 31 to determine whether it was connected to the alleged murder plot.

According to the police investigation, Chetan allegedly reached Lohagad Fort before Ketan and Siya on June 18. Officials claim he followed the couple to a secluded spot where he and Siya allegedly pushed Ketan into a nearly 400-foot-deep gorge before attempting to portray the incident as an accidental fall.

The investigation has also focused on a cancelled pre-wedding trip to Bali. Vishal Agarwal alleged that Siya deliberately removed Ketan’s passport from a pouch containing the passports of all four travellers, resulting in the trip being cancelled. He further claimed that Siya later insisted on visiting Lohagad Fort instead.

Ketan’s father also alleged that Siya showed no visible emotion following his son’s death and questioned whether her family had prior knowledge of the alleged conspiracy. Police have not confirmed these claims, and they remain under investigation.

Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary have been arrested and remanded to police custody until June 29. Police have registered a case of murder and criminal conspiracy under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and are continuing to examine forensic, digital and technical evidence. Officials said the allegations are still under investigation and will be tested during the judicial process.
