East Pune’s First Dialysis Center in Wanowrie Emerges as a Lifeline for Patients from All Walks of Life
The newly established Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Dialysis Center in Wanowrie, located above Namdev Genuji Shivarkar Hospital, has quickly become a lifeline for patients across East Pune. Since its inception, the center has brought immense relief to those who earlier had to travel long distances or rely on expensive private hospitals for regular dialysis treatment. The centre was inaugurated in May 2022.
The facility, developed under the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), is designed to offer high-quality dialysis services at affordable rates, making advanced healthcare accessible to everyone. Equipped with ten state-of-the-art dialysis machines, a stretcher-sized elevator for patient convenience, and separate entry and exit points, the center has been thoughtfully planned to ensure comfort and efficiency.
The cost of treatment at the center is just ₹400 per session—significantly lower than private hospitals—while patients holding the Shahari Garib Yojana card from PMC can avail an additional ₹200 concession. Moreover, patients from financially weaker backgrounds can receive free treatment upon obtaining a recommendation letter from the corporator’s office.
Corporator Kalinda Muralidhar Punde of Prabhag 25 (Wanowadi–Ramtekdi), who envisioned the project, expressed pride in making this dream a reality. “For years, citizens requested a dialysis facility within Wanowrie as many had to travel far for treatment. It was my goal not only to upgrade the Shivarkar Hospital but also to introduce new, essential facilities that directly benefit the residents,” she said.
With the opening of the dialysis center, Shivarkar Hospital is also undergoing a much-needed transformation, enhancing its capacity to serve the community.
The center stands as a testament to inclusive healthcare, ensuring that no patient—regardless of background—has to compromise on quality treatment due to financial or logistical challenges.
