Wanowrie's First E-Learning School to Bring Modern, Inclusive Education Closer to Residents
Wanowrie is set to witness a major transformation in its education landscape with the upcoming launch of the area’s first E-Learning School under the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The Sardar Mahadji Shinde School No. 62, established in 1950 as the first school in Wanowrie, is now being upgraded into a modern digital learning institution a move that promises to provide students with quality, technology-driven education at no cost.
For over seven decades, the school has served generations of students, helping them build successful careers and contribute to society. However, as education methods evolved, the need for a digital learning environment became increasingly essential. The initiative to transform the traditional school into an E-Learning model was sanctioned in 2016-17 during my tenure of Mayor of Pune, marking a new era of education accessibility in the locality.

The new E-Learning School will follow the CBSE curriculum and offer English-medium education up to Class X. Earlier, the school only functioned up to Class VII in Marathi medium. The project, estimated to cost 14 crore, is designed to make learning more interactive and accessible through computers and digital classrooms, reducing dependency on traditional textbooks.

The slab and brickwork have been completed, while civil and furniture work are currently underway.
Local representatives, including Prabhag 25 Corporators Ratnaprabha Jagtap and Prashant Jagtap, expressed pride in bringing the first PMC-run E- Learning School to East Pune. “This project ensures that every child, irrespective of financial background, gets access to quality education. It’s a milestone for Wanowrie and a step forward in making education future- ready,” they said.
The school is expected to open for students in the coming academic year.
