Pune Man Arrested for Allegedly Killing Cousin Over Suspected Affair; Body Dumped Near Katraj Ghat
Pune Police Arrest Accused In Wanowrie Vehicle Vandalism Incident, Solve 14 Criminal Cases
Shocking details have emerged from Pune after police took a 23-year-old labourer into custody for allegedly murdering his cousin over suspicions involving his wife. The case, reported on November 17, has highlighted a troubling mix of family tension, emotional turmoil, and the difficult circumstances migrant workers often face while living far from home.
According to investigators, Ashok Kailas Pandit—originally from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand—became convinced that his wife was involved in an illicit relationship with his cousin, 22-year-old Ajaykumar Ganesh Pandit. Police say Ashok grew increasingly agitated after discovering chat messages between the two, which intensified the friction between them.
Both men worked at separate construction sites in Pune. Ajaykumar reportedly tried to distance himself by shifting between worksites, hoping to avoid a confrontation. However, Ashok managed to track him down. During interrogation, Ashok allegedly confessed that the confrontation at a construction site turned violent, leading him to stab Ajaykumar in a fit of rage.
After the killing, police state that Ashok placed the body inside a gunny sack and carried it to a forested patch near the Katraj Ghat hillock, where he abandoned it in an attempt to destroy evidence.
The discovery of the crime began when locals spotted the suspicious sack in the area and informed police. A team from the Bharati Vidyapeeth police arrived quickly and recovered the body, setting off a detailed investigation into the young man’s disappearance.
Once Ajaykumar’s employer reported him missing, officers began tracing his last known movements. Their findings soon pointed to Ashok, who was located and detained. Under extended questioning, he allegedly admitted to both the murder and the disposal of the body. Senior Inspector Rahul Khilare confirmed that a case has been filed under charges of murder and destruction of evidence. Police officials say the investigation remains active as they work to verify every detail of the sequence of events.
Both the accused and the victim were among the many migrant labourers who move from states like Jharkhand to Pune in search of work. These workers often face unstable living conditions, prolonged periods of isolation, and financial strain—circumstances that can deepen personal conflicts and leave individuals without emotional or social support.
