Pune: Techies Push For Stronger Road Safety Measures In Hinjawadi–Wakad IT Corridor
Pune, November 24, 2025: Growing concerns over frequent road accidents in the Hinjawadi–Wakad IT corridor have prompted tech professionals to demand urgent safety reforms. On Saturday, members of the Forum of IT Employees (FITE) submitted a petition to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police, highlighting the alarming rise in fatalities and the need for immediate intervention.
According to recent estimates shared by tech employees and reported widely in local media, close to 40 people have lost their lives this year in road accidents across the IT belt, which covers Hinjawadi, Wakad and adjoining areas. Most of these incidents are said to involve heavy vehicles, raising questions about traffic regulation and road safety compliance.
A delegation from FITE visited the Hinjawadi Police Station and met Senior Police Inspector Balaji Pandhare to raise their concerns. The group pointed out that large commercial vehicles continue to pose a significant risk, despite existing restrictions on their movement during peak hours. The issue gained renewed attention after the death of Tanvi Sakhare on November 17 in front of the Life Republic township, followed by multiple fatal accidents in the days that followed.
FITE Chairman Pavanjit Mane said the pattern of accidents shows a clear lack of safety oversight. “These tragedies are happening again and again. Heavy vehicles are involved in most of the deaths, and it’s unacceptable for a major tech hub like Hinjawadi to remain so unsafe,” he stated.
Today, IT employees and #Hinjawadi residents met PI Pandhare Sir and DCP Vivek Patil Sir at Hinjawadi Police Station regarding the rising accidents caused by heavy vehicles.

Demands Presented to Hinjawadi Police
During the meeting, FITE representatives urged authorities to enforce stricter monitoring of heavy vehicles and improve overall safety standards. Their key recommendations included:
- GPS-based tracking systems for all heavy vehicles.
- Mandatory cabin and dashboard cameras to document driver behaviour.
- Anti-collision and proximity sensors to prevent crashes.
- Side and rear-view camera systems to reduce blind spots.
- Safety technology upgrades, including seat belts and airbags for all occupants, including heavy vehicle operators.
- Stricter licensing and qualification norms, ensuring that only experienced and certified drivers operate heavy vehicles.
Tech employees have stressed that without strong, continuous enforcement, the fatal accident trend in the Hinjawadi IT region is unlikely to change. They hope the latest appeal will push authorities toward decisive and long-lasting safety measures.
