Pune, November 27, 2025: Residents of Kausar Baug area in Kondhwa area are expressing frustration over the persistent inaction by civic authorities on major local issues, including traffic congestion, encroachments, illegal hotels, and poor waste management. The Kausar Baug Residents Forum, representing 40 housing societies, says hundreds of complaints have been filed via the PMC’s app, yet key concerns remain unresolved.

While minor issues such as illegal parking are sometimes addressed promptly, residents say that more serious problems continue to affect their daily lives. Illegal hotels and lodges are operating in violation of PMC norms, encroaching on footpaths, mismanaging waste, and failing to provide proper parking facilities. “These hotels operate without licenses and flaunt civic rules, endangering residents and polluting the environment,” said a forum spokesperson.

Waste management is another critical concern. Garbage is frequently dumped on footpaths and vacant plots, creating unhygienic conditions. Residents say the PMC has refused to take responsibility for clearing waste from open plots, further aggravating the situation.

Traffic congestion, especially after 6 PM, has become a major problem. Roads are blocked due to roadside gatherings, marriage halls, and party lawns, making commuting difficult and unsafe. Many residents have reported that footpaths are blocked, forcing pedestrians to walk on the road, raising safety concerns, particularly for women. Incidents such as fights, gang clashes, and even a reported firing in 2023 have heightened residents’ fears about law and order in the area.

Encroachments on public property remain unchecked. Footpaths and side margins have been converted into commercial spaces despite repeated “formal” action by the PMC. Residents argue that these illegal activities, combined with rising air and noise pollution, are significantly lowering the quality of life in Kausar Baug.

Forum members are urging the PMC, Traffic Department, and local corporators to take immediate and strict action against illegal establishments, encroachments, and traffic violations. Residents also suggest that vacant PMC land be used efficiently to address parking and congestion issues and that hotels complying with PMC norms take responsibility for managing parking and waste.

“Walking on footpaths has become impossible. Women do not feel safe. Traffic, noise, and hygiene problems are everyday struggles. Kausar Baug deserves planned development, not chaos,” said Priya Cherukuri of Bramha Emerald County.

Ahmed Imran, another resident, added, “Illegal hotels and party lawns have turned the area into a traffic nightmare with late-night crowds, air and noise pollution, and blocked public spaces. Action is long overdue.”
