Pune recorded two devastating road accidents this week, claiming the lives of a 63-year-old woman in Vishrantwadi and a 55-year-old motorcyclist on the Katraj–Manterwadi bypass. Police have filed cases in both matters and are carrying out further investigations.
A 63-year-old woman, Reshma Ramchandra Bhosale, who lived in Harekrushna Society, Vishrantwadi, suffered fatal injuries after a speeding motorcycle struck her on the evening of December 1. Police said that Bhosale had left her home to visit the Alandi temple, and around 7 p.m., as she was near a PMPL bus stop close to Mhaska Vasti, a fast-moving bike hit her with force. She was rushed to a hospital immediately, but doctors could not save her.
Her family member, Suraj Ramchandra Bhosale (29), lodged a formal complaint at the Vishrantwadi police station. The motorcycle rider has been identified as Pavan Ajinath Mandge (25), a resident of Bharatmata Nagar near Alandi Road in Dighi. Police have registered a case against him, and Police Sub-Inspector Mane is currently probing the matter.
According to the police, “she had set out for a temple visit when the speeding bike hit her near the bus stop, leading to serious injuries that proved fatal.”
In another incident, a separate road tragedy occurred on December 2 on the Katraj–Manterwadi bypass road, where Dattatraya Murlidhar Bhapkar (55) lost his life after a dumper crashed into his motorcycle. Bhapkar, who lived at Swayambhu Nivas in Shikshak Colony, Bhekrainagar, Phursungi, was riding along the route at around 11:45 a.m. when a dumper approaching at high speed rammed into his vehicle near Omkar Pride Lodge. He died instantly due to the impact.
Following the accident, his son Vishal Dattatraya Bhapkar (29) filed a complaint at the Kondhwa police station. The dumper driver, Uttam Tukaram Javeer (53)—currently residing in Akanksha Society, Yeolewadi, Kondhwa, and originally from Khadi in Parbhani—has been booked in connection with the case. Police stated that “the dumper struck the motorcyclist with significant force, causing his immediate death.”
Police Sub-Inspector Khopade is overseeing the investigation.
