Significant development work has been completed at multiple burial grounds and cemeteries in Wanawadi, a suburb known for its diverse communities including Bohri Muslims, Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Parsis, and Sikhs. Many of these cemeteries are several centuries old and had been facing infrastructure issues due to growing population and limited space.

Members of various cemetery committees had approached Corporator Kalinda Muralidhar Punde (Prabhag 25, PMC) during her tenure in 2017–2022 regarding the need for better facilities. In response, Pune Municipal Corporation allocated development funds to carry out essential upgrades at these sites. All the works have been completed during her tenure as Corporator.

The work completed includes the construction of pathways for easier access, installation of shelters, provision of water facilities, creation of a watchman’s cabin to improve security, and tarring of approach roads. Committee members expressed appreciation, stating that the improvements have brought major relief to families visiting for final rites.

Alongside these developments, the crematorium in Wanawadi has also undergone a major revamp. The earlier issue of heavy smoke and foul odour has been significantly reduced, leading to cleaner air in the surrounding area. A new water pipeline has also been installed, ensuring consistent water supply at the facility.

Ex Corporator Punde reaffirmed her commitment to supporting all communities in Wanawadi–Ramtekdi and acknowledged the efforts of former Defence Minister Late Manohar Parrikar and former Minister Dilip Kamble in expediting the land handover process for the Dawoodi Bohra community.

“During my tenure with help of MLA Dilip And Sunil Kamble I introduced walkways, water supply system, laid drainage pipes, constructed bathrooms and retaining wall. This has resolved many issues of the residents.”
