Delays in construction work are a common sight across the city, with many infrastructure projects stretching beyond deadlines. But a recent video from Vikhroli, Mumbai, has brought the dangers of such delays into sharp focus. The footage shows several schoolgirls climbing down a closed Foot Over Bridge (FOB) that is under repair, risking their lives in the process.

The video reveals the bridge in a visibly dilapidated state. Despite metal barricades meant to block access, the girls bypassed them and used unsafe sections to cross. In one alarming scene, a girl can be seen holding onto the outer railing of the bridge, putting herself in extreme danger.

Below the bridge, a busy road with heavy vehicles adds to the risk, making the situation highly perilous. The clip was originally shared on Instagram by the page ‘Vikhrolikar’ and has since gone viral, drawing widespread attention.

Social media users have criticized the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for delays in completing the repair work. One user on X wrote: “Eastern Express Highway near Vikhroli, foot over bridge near Praveen Hotel. Schoolchildren and citizens are walking with their lives in their hands on the dilapidated and extremely dangerous bridge. When will the municipal administration and leaders pay attention?”

Another highlighted the inconvenience and danger caused to residents: “Due to incomplete work, a serious question has arisen regarding the safety of children. The incomplete overhead walkway in eastern Vikhroli is forcing locals to take dangerous risks. Schoolchildren are seen descending from the unsafe side outside the walkway.”
