Pimpri, December 19, 2025: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Deputy Commissioner Dr Pradeep Thengal visited and inspected the community composting centre set up at the Yashwantrao Chavan Rose Garden as part of the civic body’s efforts to promote decentralised waste management in the city. During the visit, Dr Thengal issued instructions to further strengthen initiatives aimed at sustainable and environment-friendly waste processing.

Under the guidance of PCMC Commissioner Shravan Hardikar and Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate, the municipal corporation has been implementing several innovative cleanliness and environmental initiatives across the city. These programmes are being executed under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Dr Pradeep Thengal and Assistant Commissioner Amit Pandit.

As part of this initiative, a community composting centre has been established at the Rose Garden through a joint effort of the Swarnalata Madarson Trust and the Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA). The facility is designed to process up to 250 kilograms of wet waste daily using aerobic composting technology, converting it into organic manure. This approach enables waste to be managed at the source, significantly reducing the burden on landfill sites.

He also appealed to housing societies and educational institutions to implement waste segregation practices more effectively and to promote public awareness.

During the programme, the Kalasamrajya Art Group presented a street play highlighting the importance of proper waste management. This was followed by a detailed presentation by IPCA senior project executive Sujit Gedam, who explained the aerobic composting process and the significance of waste segregation to those present.

Several civic officials and representatives attended the event, including Municipal Administration Officer Sunita Waikar, Assistant Health Officers Tanaji Date, Sudhir Waghmare, Mahesh Adhav, Rajesh Bhat, Ankush Jite, Chief Health Inspector Vaibhav Gholve, Health Inspectors Satish Ingewad, Rahul Jethithor, Kshitij Rokde and Rajendra Ujinwal, along with IPCA regional manager Zishan Khan and other team members.
