The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave alert for Maharashtra, warning of an intense spell of winter conditions on Saturday, December 20. Several parts of the state are expected to witness temperatures dipping below 10 degrees Celsius, bringing continued cold conditions over the next few days.
Over the past several days, Maharashtra has been experiencing persistent cold weather, with minimum temperatures dropping significantly in many districts. North Maharashtra and eastern Vidarbha have been among the coldest regions. Jeur recorded a low of 5°C, indicating the severity of the cold wave. According to the IMD, the chill is expected to persist across the state for the coming days.
On December 20, Western Maharashtra, North Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha are likely to record minimum temperatures below 10°C. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, especially during early morning and late-night hours.
In Mumbai, however, the cold intensity is relatively lower. The city is expected to record a maximum temperature of around 33°C and a minimum of about 18°C, with clear skies likely. The Konkan region, too, is expected to witness comparatively higher daytime temperatures.
Western Maharashtra continues to experience sharp cold conditions. Pune is likely to see a maximum temperature of around 19°C and a minimum of 9°C, with foggy conditions expected during the day. Several other districts in the region are also witnessing a noticeable dip in temperatures.

Vidarbha continues to remain under cold conditions. Nagpur is expected to see a maximum temperature of 29°C and a minimum of 11°C, with mostly clear skies. Amaravati, Gondia and Nagpur have all reported minimum temperatures below 10°C. The IMD has indicated that the drop in temperatures is likely to continue over the next few days.
