Megha Rajendra Babar is a seasoned political figure with a strong grassroots connect and a track record that reflects determination, resilience and public service. She entered the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in 2007 after winning her first civic election on a Shiv Sena ticket from Ward No. 122 – Mitha Nagar, marking the beginning of her active role in urban governance. She was Chairperson of Women & Child Welfare Committee PMC.

Babar created history in Maharashtra’s municipal elections by registering one of the narrowest victories ever recorded. She won the 2007 election by a margin of just one vote, securing 2,290 votes against her opponent. The razor-thin victory underlined the importance of every single vote and established her as a determined and committed representative. During her tenure, she also served as the Chairperson of the Bibwewadi Ward Office, gaining hands-on administrative experience and insight into civic functioning.

An MA and B.Ed graduate, Babar combines academic grounding with practical political experience. She contested the PMC elections again in 2012 and narrowly lost by a margin of around 400 votes, reflecting her continued relevance and support among voters.

Politics runs in the family, with her husband Rajendra Babar being active in public life since 1997. He served as the Deputy Vidhan Sabha head for the Pune Cantonment constituency, bringing organisational and political experience that has complemented her own journey. Now currently he is ShivSena Chief for Hadapsar Legislative Assembly.

Beyond electoral politics, Megha Babar has been deeply involved in social initiatives aimed at empowering women, particularly from economically weaker sections. She has facilitated free training programmes in embroidery, aari work and mat rangoli, while also supporting Aadhaar enrolment and voter registration drives to strengthen civic participation.

Known for her straightforward, positive and proactive approach, Babar positions herself as a go-getter committed to problem-solving. As Kondhwa undergoes rapid and often unplanned growth, she has flagged serious concerns related to traffic congestion, safety and security, poor road infrastructure, waste management, water supply and drainage. She has also raised alarm over rising crime and drug-related issues, calling for scientific and sustainable solutions.

Ahead of the upcoming civic elections, Megha Rajendra Babar has expressed her readiness to take on these challenges and seeks public support to deliver holistic and planned development for Kondhwa through experienced and accountable leadership.
