From Ward-Level Issues To City Leadership: Prashant Jagtap’s Two Decades In Wanowrie And NIBM
Prashant Jagtap’s public life is a story of steady rise built on trust, accessibility, and action at the grassroots. More than a former Mayor or seasoned corporator, he is widely seen as a leader who belongs to the people—one who understands everyday civic concerns because he has spent years addressing them on the ground. This strong connection has earned him support from citizens across age groups, professions, and communities in Wanowrie, Salunkhe Vihar Road, and NIBM Road.
With close to two decades of experience within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Jagtap brings institutional knowledge combined with a people-first approach. His political journey began in 2012, when he won his first election by focusing on basic civic needs and constant engagement with residents. His decisive victory again in 2017 and his service till 2022 reaffirmed public confidence in his leadership. These years of consistent work led to larger responsibilities, including his tenure as Mayor of Pune from 2016 to 2017 and as Chairman of Pune Municipal Transport, where he worked to improve urban mobility and essential services.

What distinguishes Prashant Jagtap is his ability to balance large-scale planning with neighbourhood-level solutions. His developmental work reflects the aspirations of families, senior citizens, youth, women, and small businesses alike. Wanowrie saw the creation of vibrant public spaces such as Shahid Ashok Kamte Udyan near Clover Village, providing residents with green, safe areas for recreation. Healthcare access improved significantly with facilities like Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Hospital in Kedari Nagar, PMC hospitals at KPCT Mall and the Wanowrie–Ramtekdi ward office, along with Arogya Kothis that strengthened preventive care at the local level.

Long-pending infrastructure needs were addressed through cement roads, overhead water tanks in NIBM Annexe and B.T. Kawade Road, Ganesh idol immersion tanks, and a fully equipped ward office. Sports facilities at SRPF, e-learning schools, and community amenities collectively transformed Wanowrie into a modern, self-reliant suburb.

As Mayor, Jagtap’s leadership contributed to citywide initiatives, reinforcing Pune’s civic framework with decisive and inclusive governance. Now, ahead of the 2026 municipal elections, he is focused on resolving remaining civic challenges and driving the next phase of development.

Supported by people from all sections of society, Prashant Jagtap stands as a symbol of experience, credibility, and people-driven leadership—qualities that continue to inspire trust and confidence across his constituency.
