In Thyagarajanagar, South Bengaluru, a five-year-old boy was injured after being kicked by a local man while playing near his grandmother’s home. The incident, recorded on CCTV, shows the man striking the child from behind, causing him to fall to the ground.

The boy, Neiv Jain, was playing badminton with other children near his uncle’s residence on Old Post Office Road on December 14 when Ranjith, also known as Ranjan, 35, suddenly approached him and kicked him “like a football,” according to his mother, Deepika. The boy suffered injuries above his eyebrow and scratches on his hands and legs and was immediately attended to by family members.

Deepika said that Ranjith had been assaulting other children in the area in a similar manner over several days. “We were not aware of this earlier. He comes onto the road and attacks children,” she said. Concerned for her son’s safety, she filed a complaint with the police on the same day, requesting legal action.

Ranjith, a resident of the area and a former gym trainer, had recently quit his job. He is reportedly unmarried and, according to his family, suffers from psychological disorders. He is undergoing treatment at Madurai. Police noted that he lives in isolation and communicates very little even with family members.

The complaint was initially registered as a non-cognisable offence (NCR). After a preliminary investigation, police obtained permission from the II Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) on December 15 to file a case under Section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for voluntarily causing hurt. Authorities confirmed that Ranjith has been arrested.

CCTV footage shows Ranjith stepping out of his house wearing a cap, spotting Neiv holding a shuttle bat, kicking him from behind, and walking away. Older children immediately informed their parents about the incident. During investigation, police also found videos suggesting that he had assaulted other children, including girls. Authorities said further cases will be filed if more victims come forward.

Even though Ranjith is reportedly undergoing treatment for psychological disorders, incidents like this highlight the potential danger such behavior poses to children and other citizens. Individuals who repeatedly harm others cannot be allowed to roam freely and need to be in appropriate care facilities where they can be monitored and treated safely, ensuring the community is protected.
