Maharashtra: Maharashtra is set to welcome the New Year under the influence of a cold wave, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an alert for January 1, 2026. According to the forecast, minimum temperatures across the state are likely to remain 2 to 4 degrees Celsius below normal due to cold northerly winds. The weather is expected to remain dry, with no rainfall forecast for most regions.
IMD officials said the state will witness clear to partly cloudy skies, while light fog may occur in the early morning hours at a few places. Overall, the cold conditions are likely to enhance the winter chill during New Year celebrations.
In the Konkan region, including Mumbai, the weather will remain pleasant. Minimum temperatures are expected to range between 18 and 20°C, while maximum temperatures may hover around 31 to 33°C. The dry and moderately cool weather will be favourable for outdoor celebrations along beaches and open spaces.
Western Maharashtra is likely to experience a sharper drop in temperatures. Minimum temperatures may fall between 10 and 15°C, with some pockets recording temperatures below 10°C. Morning fog is likely, and motorists have been advised to drive cautiously.
In North Maharashtra, including Nashik and Jalgaon districts, minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 10 and 13°C, with foggy conditions possible in the morning hours.
Marathwada will continue to experience dry weather, with minimum temperatures ranging from 10 to 14°C and maximum temperatures between 28 and 30°C. A slight rise in temperature may be observed after January 1.
Vidarbha is expected to remain the coldest region in the state, with minimum temperatures dipping to 8 to 12°C. Residents have been advised to take precautions against cold conditions.
IMD has indicated that the cold spell is likely to persist for the next few days, urging citizens to stay warm and remain alert, especially during early morning and late-night hours.
